What BHRT Is

Hormones that are molecularly identical to your own.

“Bioidentical” means the hormones we use — estradiol, progesterone, testosterone — have the same molecular structure as the ones your body already makes. Same shape. That’s what sets them apart from some older synthetic formulations. When a compounded preparation is the right call, we can individualize it for you through the FarmaKeio® network, so the dose and the delivery are matched to your labs and how you actually feel — not a stock product off a shelf. What that’s for is the day-to-day: steadier energy, clearer thinking, better sleep. BHRT isn’t a cure and it doesn’t turn back the clock. It’s a lab-guided way to address specific, measurable symptoms, and results vary from person to person.

Molecularly identical. The same structure as the estradiol, progesterone, or testosterone your body produces.
Individually compounded. Formulated for you through the FarmaKeio® network when a compounded preparation is appropriate.
Symptom- and lab-driven. We start from how you feel and what your labs show — not a template.

BHRT vs. traditional hormone therapy

Both approaches go after the same thing: the symptoms that show up when hormones decline or fall out of balance. The difference is in the molecules and how they’re prepared. Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to your own. Some traditional formulations use synthetic or animal-derived hormones that differ slightly in shape. Neither category is automatically “better” for everyone — the right choice comes down to your health history, your goals, and what your provider recommends once your labs are back.

Now, the elephant in the room. People assume “bioidentical” and “FDA-approved” mean the same thing. They don’t. Some bioidentical hormones are sold as commercially manufactured, FDA-approved products. Others are compounded — mixed by a licensed pharmacy for one individual patient — and compounded preparations are not FDA-approved. We’ll always tell you which bucket a recommendation falls into, in plain words, so you can decide with the full picture. Our job is accurate information and a plan matched to your biology. Not a sales pitch for one category.

Delivery methods: pellets, creams, and more

There’s more than one way to take a bioidentical hormone, and the best route depends on the hormone, your labs, your routine, and your preference. THRIVE is EvexiPEL®-certified for pellet therapy — tiny compounded pellets placed just under the skin during a short in-clinic visit, releasing hormone at a steady, low level over months. No daily reminder, nothing to carry. That’s the draw for a lot of patients. Pellets aren’t right for everyone, though.

Other options: topical creams and gels, applied daily, easy to fine-tune; injections for certain hormones; and other forms your provider may raise where they fit. No single method wins on every count. Each one trades off convenience, how steadily levels stay put, and how easily a dose can be changed. Your provider walks you through the choices, recommends a starting point, and we adjust as we watch how your body responds.

Who BHRT Is For

Framed by symptoms, confirmed by labs.

BHRT is considered for adults whose symptoms track with hormone changes — when labs, history, and a provider evaluation back it up. It isn’t right for everyone, and fit is decided one person at a time.

May Not Be a Fit

Some histories and conditions call for caution or a different plan. We’ll tell you honestly if BHRT isn’t appropriate — that’s what the consultation is for.

Lab monitoring & safety

BHRT here is lab-first and physician-supervised. We start with comprehensive testing and a real look at your history and symptoms before we recommend a thing. If therapy makes sense, we retest at intervals to see how your body is responding, then refine the dose and the delivery from there. Hormone care is a relationship, not a set-and-forget script. Individual results vary, and the point is to ease specific symptoms measured against your labs — not to chase one number on a page.

Like any medical therapy, hormone treatment carries potential risks and side effects, and it isn’t suitable for everyone. Compounded formulations, again, are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient and are not FDA-approved. We talk through the benefits, the risks, and the alternatives openly, so your consent is genuinely informed — and we say so plainly when a therapy isn’t a good fit. None of this is medical advice or a promised outcome. Your plan is set by your provider after weighing your labs, history, and goals.

Ask Us
It depends on the exact formulation. Some bioidentical hormones are sold as commercially manufactured, FDA-approved products. Compounded bioidentical formulations — the ones mixed by a licensed compounding pharmacy for an individual patient — are not FDA-approved. So it’s simply inaccurate to say all bioidentical hormones are FDA-approved. In your consultation we’ll tell you which category any recommendation falls into, so you can decide with full information.
The hormone has the same molecular structure as the one your body makes on its own — estradiol, progesterone, testosterone. That structural match is what separates bioidentical hormones from some older synthetic or animal-derived formulations.
It comes down to the molecules and how they’re prepared. Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to your own and can be individually compounded; some traditional formulations use synthetic or animal-derived hormones. Neither is automatically better — the right choice depends on your labs, history, and what your provider recommends.
Depending on the hormone and your needs, options can include EvexiPEL® pellets placed under the skin, topical creams or gels, and injections. Each trades off convenience against how steadily levels hold. Your provider recommends a starting method, and we adjust as we monitor how you respond.
Maybe — and we’ll tell you straight if it isn’t. Fit depends on your labs, medical history, and goals, and certain conditions call for caution or a different approach. Individual results vary. The first consultation is where we work out whether BHRT is an appropriate option for you. You can also start with our symptom checklist.
Our clinic is in Lakeway, just west of Austin near Lake Travis — we serve greater Austin but don’t keep a separate downtown office. Most Austin patients find the drive quick, and we handle much of the ongoing follow-up by telehealth. A few steps, like pellet insertions, happen in the clinic.
