The appointment
Treatment is quick and done right in our Lakeway clinic. After a thorough assessment, your provider cleanses the area and helps you stay comfortable — most hyaluronic acid fillers contain a small amount of lidocaine to numb as they’re placed, and a topical numbing cream or ice may be used as well. The injections themselves usually take only minutes per area.
The first few days
Mild, temporary swelling and bruising at the treated sites are the most common after-effects and typically settle within a few days to about a week. You may feel small areas of firmness as the product integrates. We’ll send you home with clear aftercare — gentle handling of the area, brief avoidance of strenuous exercise and excess heat, and what to watch for. As with any provider-administered injectable, a medical assessment is required first, and your provider will review the relevant risks with you.
The timeline of results
One of the satisfying things about fillers is that you see a difference right away. The final look refines over the following one to two weeks as any swelling resolves and the gel settles into place. How long results last depends on the product, the area treated, and your own metabolism — generally somewhere in the range of 6 to 18 months. Individual results vary, and your provider will give you a realistic estimate for your plan.

One reason hyaluronic acid fillers are so widely used is the comfort of knowing they aren’t permanent. Because they’re based on a substance the body recognizes, they naturally break down over months — and, in general terms, an experienced medical provider can also dissolve them with an enzyme if needed to adjust or reverse a result.
What “reversible” really means
This reversibility is a meaningful safety feature, and it’s part of why a conservative, build-over-time approach makes sense. It does not mean filler is risk-free or casual — dissolving is itself a medical decision made by your provider — but it does offer reassurance, especially for first-time clients who want to start gently and see how they feel.
